1975 : Indira Gandhi , the 1st woman prime minister of India,a nd 3rd Prime minister of country is found guilty of electoral corruption in her successful 1971 campaign. Gandhi refused to give up India's top office and later declared martial law in the country when public demonstrations threatened to topple her administration. She Got Bharat Ratna in 1971.
- 1996: H. D. Deve Gowda, 11th Prime Minister of India, won the vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha and ruled as the head of the United Front coalition.

- 1990: Indian National Satellite (INSAT-1D) was launched. This was an operational multi-purpose communication and meteorology satellite.
The objectives of INSAT-1D were meteorological observations over India and the Indian Ocean, and search & rescue services, domestic telecommunications (nationwide direct TV broadcasting, TV program distribution, meteorological data distribution, etc.). Meteorological Data Utilization Center (MDUC, at Delhi), under IMD, was authorized for the dissemination and distribution of INSAT meteorological images and ancillary data. Master Control Facility of DOS was decided to take responsibility for the operation of the INSAT space segment.
